Today I was reading about the Technological Singularity which is a sudden and dramatic increase in artificial intelligence once robots have the ability to "self improve" and recursively augment themselves into far greater intelligences, or superintelligence. This supuerintelligence could be acheived through human-genetic engineering, brain-computer interfacing or pure artificial intelligence.

The route of human-genetic engineering and brain-computer integration relate to improving the human being, although in this instance, it presumably refers to improving the cognitive abilities of the human (such as through drugs [smart drugs / nootropics], genetic enhancement, and electronic integration). However, a parallel can be drawn with improving the physical abilities of the human such as through the use of steroids. Therefore, it occurred to me that steroids really form a tool in the "arsenal" of methods for the enhancement of the human being. From this point we could easily get into a debate about the "have's" and the "have nots", which I shall stay clear of today. However, what did interest me was when asking people in the office whether they would have elctronic chips implemanted into the brain if they would be significantly more clever than other people, there was those who would be willing to enhance themselves, and others that had no desire to do that. I guess it's the same with steroids, some people just don't get that "I want to be better than my natural self can be". Having said that, it can't all be a bonus having more testosterone in our body, as that's a pretty easy genetic evolution that could have occurred if it was naturally advantageous.
